Trainer
I began riding over 30 years ago and in my early teens represented Bay Ridge Equestrian Center under the direction of Sandi Ward Deisterhoft. In 1981, I acquired my first thoroughbred off the race track, who was injured at the time. Upon convalescence and “deprogramming”, and intermittent coaching from Katie Monahan Prudent, he later went on to successfully complete two Grand Prix Level Showjumping competitions, placing seventh at Upperville in 1985.
I began instructing people and training horses in 1988. After four years in Blacksburg at Virginia Tech, I returned to Northern Virginia and managed Highpoint Farm which housed up to 13 horses at any one given time. In 1996 I took over Arrowhead Equestrian Center in Nokesville, Virginia which housed up to 120 horses at one time. I was an instructor as well as the manager, and with five instructors on staff, we were able to accommodate people in all of the equestrian disciplines.
In 1997, I re-opened Highpoint Farm in Warrenton. While continuing to train horses and coach people in the show ring, we ran a Jumper Horseshow circuit. In addition, we ran very successful summer camps. In 2008, Highpoint Farm relocated to Woodward Lane, in Rixeyville. I presently have 14 horses of my own, and continue to work with riders and horses, of all ages, and all levels.
